Martin Reyna was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1964. He uses water soluble materials which he allows to flow along the surface of the paper. He is renowned for his use of perspective, different rhythms, \u201caccidents\u201d and intensity of color.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Reyna belongs to the generation of painters who in the 1980s focused on painting with an expressionist tone. Over time, his work has been composed of subtle lines, inspired by the landscape. His current works are composed of minimal elements that flow seeking autonomous paths across the surface. With more than three decades of experimentation, Reyna has gone through a number of different periods . From his early works of the 1980s, where small houses and landscapes embedded in symbols are evident between the ambiguity of chaos and order, to his large format watercolors where color is key to the development of his unique point of view.<\/span><\/p>\n

His series of polyptychs is developed from direct contact with the open air of Argentina\u2019s Patagonia region and Bois de Boulogne, on the outskirts of Paris, France. The intention of this action is not to record the places in a documentary way, but to denote the possibility the artist finds in relating with nature through the painting technique, starting from the sensory experience and direct perception he finds in these contexts, especially their light.
\nThe fragmentation of the work allows a double reading based on the apparent continuity and discontinuity of its figures. In this way, it forces us to rest our gaze at the edges, where there are cuts and interruptions in the logic of color, as well as the captivating contemplation of the final disposition of the whole set.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mart\u00edn Reyna\u2019s standout individual exhibitions include: Asturian Perspective, La Maison de L’Am\u00e9rique Latine (Paris, France); En el Horizonte del Color, Del Infinito (Buenos Aires, Argentina); Galer\u00eda Hogar Collection (New York, USA); La couleur de l\u2019eau. Pavillon de l\u2019eau (Paris, France) and Carta et aquarello, Instituto Italo Latinoamericano (Rome, Italy).
\nHe has been awarded several major prizes, including the Chandon acquisition award \u2013 arteBA, Buenos Aires, Argentina; (2012), Antorchas Foundation Arts Prize, Buenos Aires, Argentina (1997), Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Millet Prize for Painting, Honorable Mention Costantini Prize, National Museum of Fine Arts of Buenos Aires (MNBA), Painting Prize from the Nuevo Mundo Foundation, National Museum of Fine Arts of Buenos Aires (1991 and 1989) and Gunther Painting Prize, CAYC. Reyna\u2019s work has been featured in numerous International art fairs such as: Buenos Aires Contemporary Art Fair (ArteBA), Peru Contemporary Art Fair (PArC), Madrid Contemporary Art Fair (Arco) and Bogot\u00e1 International Art Fair (ArtBO). In 2017 he presented his most recent book, edited with Del Infinito.<\/span><\/p>\n
